Description

BACKGROUND:

There has been an ongoing discussion between SG552 and SG553 on the topic of model validation. This discussion was specifically with regards to the model validation of the aero elastic models in use in the wind industry that are used to determine the loads and power performance of a wind turbine given a specific set of input conditions.

Such model validation has been done in the wind industry for many years by different actors and as a result there is little alignment on methodology and outcome.

The proposal on page 3 of this document is to create a task force for the Wind Energy sector to establish model validation as a competence area for both RECBs as well as for RETLs to achieve further alignment on the methodology and outcome of model validation done in the wind industry.

Although the discussion has so far centered around the power curve, the proposal will be to do both a more generic framework that would be applicable to all sorts of models (including for example those based on computational fluid dynamics; noise models, grid models, etc.).

ACTION:

WE-OMC to approve:

  1. The establishment of a Task Force to develop a competence area for Model Validation
  2. The ToR for the TF (see page 3), if the establishment of the TF is approved,

and includes a call for TF member nominations from the WE-OMC Member Bodies, assuming that the TF will be approved.

Ballots are to be returned to the IECRE Secretariat ([email protected]) no later than 2019-06-30.

NOTE: USNC/IECRE ballots are to be submitted within two weeks to allow for resolution of any comments prior to the IEC deadline.
